ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A propulsion apparatus for use, for example, in aircraft, model aircraft, hovercraft, railway trains, hydrofoils or boats comprising a propellor mounted within a duct. The arrangement of the propellor, various guide vanes, the shaping of the duct, and other parameters providing an unusually efficient propulsion apparatus in which, according to tests carried out by the inventor, provides a partial vacuum relative to ambient in the duct behind the rotor. An important feature is that the blades have a non-arcuate airfoil section.
