The present invention provides a self-contained propulsion apparatus (1) suitable for a sub-sea ROV. The apparatus comprises: a reactor vessel (2) having at least one inlet (3, 4) and an exhaust (7); reservoirs (10, 11) for holding fuel and an oxidant material therefor, wherein the reaction products of said fuel and oxidant comprise steam; a remotely operable fuel and oxidant supply control device (12, 13); and a steam turbine (9) connected to the exhaust (7) so as to be driven by steam from the reactor vessel (2). The turbine (9) is drivingly connected (39) to a propulsion device (42) for propelling the ROV in use thereof. A degassing apparatus (17) is provided for substantially removing steam and any other gas phase reaction products, from the gas phase into the liquid and/or solid phase, downstream of the turbine (9).
L'invention concerne un dispositif (1) de propulsion autonome convenant pour un engin télécommandé sous-marin. Ce dispositif comprend : un caisson (2) de réacteur comprenant au moins une entrée (3, 4) et un échappement (7), des réservoirs (10, 11) destinés à contenir un combustible et un produit oxydant pour celui-ci, les produit réactionnels de ce combustible et de cet oxydant comprenant de la vapeur, un dispositif (12, 13) permettant la commande à distance de l'alimentation en combustible et en oxydant, et une turbine (9) à vapeur connectée avec l'échappement (7) de manière à être entraînée par la vapeur provenant du caisson (2) de réacteur. La turbine (9) est connectée (39) avec un dispositif (42) de propulsion de manière à entraîner ce dernier, le dispositif de propulsion servant à propulser l'engin télécommandé. Un dispositif (17) de dégazage permet d'éliminer sensiblement la vapeur et tous les autres produits réactionnels en phase gazeuse et les transférer dans une phase liquide et/ou solide en aval de la turbine (9).
