ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides new 2-(2-propynyl- amino) thiazole and 2-(3-iodo-2-propynylamino) thiazole deri- vatives of the formula I: Image I wherein R1 is hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, carboxy, formyl, hydroxy-C1-4 alkyl, mono- or di-C1-4 alkyl-amino- methyl, C1-4 alkoxy-carbonyl, hydroxyiminomethyl, phenyl or Image wherein Y is hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl and Z is hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, hydroxy-C1-4 alkyl or carboxy-C1-4 alkyl; R2 is hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy-carbonyl or halogen; R1 and R2 when taken together with the attached carbons are a condensed benzene ring optionally substituted by 1 or 2 groups selected from the group consisting of C1-4 alkyl and C1-4 alkoxy; R3 is hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl; and X is hydrogen or iodine. The compounds of the invention have anti-microbial activity and are used as an active ingredient in anti-microbial compositions for medical and agricultural use.
