An improved method of the preparation of intermediates of high enantiomeric purity, useful for synthesis of prostaglandins, is provided. Protected prostaglandin intermediates requiring substantial chiral purity at position 15 are prepared from a mixture of stereoisomers by specific fractional crystallization techniques, to obtain an S--stereoisomer in a purity of 99.5 % or greater.
