Described are a novel gene and protein expressed in normal prostate and locally confined prostate cancer, termed PROSTAPIN. In advanced stage prostate cancers, PROSTAPIN expression is lost or attenuated. Provided are cDNA and amino acid sequences encoding PROSTAPIN, vectors and host cells containing PROSTAPIN polynucleotides, antibodies specifically reactive with PROSTAPIN, and various related compositions which are useful in detecting, diagnosing, prognosing, staging, monitoring, treating and determining susceptibility to prostate cancer, particularly advanced stage and metastatic prostate cancer.

L'invention concerne un nouveau gène et une nouvelle protéine exprimés dans une prostate normale et dans la prostate atteinte d'un cancer confiné localement et appelés PROSTAPINE. Dans les cas de cancers de prostate avancés, l'expression de la PROSTAPINE est perdue ou atténuée. Font aussi l'objet de cette invention des séquences d'acides aminés et d'ADN complémentaire codant pour la PROSTAPINE, des vecteurs et des cellules hôtes contenant de polynucléotides de PROSTAPINE, des anticorps réagissant spécifiquement à la PROSTAPINE et différentes compositions associées utiles pour la détection, le diagnostic, le pronostic, le phasage, la surveillance, le traitement et la détermination de la sensibilité au cancer de la prostate, plus particulièrement au cancer de la prostate métastatique à un stade avancé.
