A prosthesis assembly (1) is described with a fixation element in the form of an acetabulum shell (2) with a bearing cup component insert (4). The bearing cup component (4) has a rim (8) with an augmented portion (10) to increase the range of motion on the bearing surface and to decrease the risk of dislocation. The augmented portion (10) of the rim (8) extends generally radially from the cup component insert (4) over the flat rim (26) of the shell (2). The augmented rim portion (10) of the present invention has increased strength such that the insert (4) can be formed of a ceramic material without the risk of fracturing of the augmented rim portion (10).
