ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A prosthetic device for use as a hip joint comprises a substantially spherical portion locatable in the acetabulur fossa of a pelvic bone, and a shank portion locatable in a femur. The spherical portion is anchored within the fossa by a holding member which is inserted into a hole in the pelvic bone from the side opposite the fossa. The spherical portion and shank portion are of one-piece construction and are composed of flexible material to enable the shank portion to be flexed during insertion of the device. - 1 -
