A system for a lower extremity prosthesis comprising a foot, an ankle and a shank, has a posterior calf device (169) on the prosthesis to store energy during force loading of the prosthesis and return the stored energy during force unloading to increase the kinetic power generated for propulsive force by the prosthesis in gait. The device in several embodiments includes at least one elongated member (171) such as a flexible strap extending between an upper portion of the shank and a lower portion of the prosthesis, and at least one coiled spring (170) which has a free end connected to the elongated member. The coiled spring is expanded by the elongated member in response to anterior movement of the upper end of the shank for storing energy.

L'invention concerne un système conçu pour une prothèse d'extrémité inférieure comprenant un pied, une cheville et une partie jambe. Un dispositif postérieur de mollet (169) est disposé sur la prothèse pour emmagasiner de l'énergie lors d'une charge de force de la prothèse, et pour libérer l'énergie emmagasinée lors d'une décharge de force, afin d'accroître la puissance cinétique générée par la prothèse lors du déplacement de son utilisateur, en vue d'obtenir une force propulsive. Dans plusieurs modes de réalisation de cette invention, ledit dispositif comprend au moins un élément allongé (171), par exemple une bande souple qui s'étend entre une partie supérieure de la partie jambe et une partie inférieure de la prothèse, et au moins un ressort enroulé (170) dont une extrémité libre est reliée à l'élément allongé.
