A binary image comprising a plurality of first areas, at which a porous or particulate image-forming substance is adhered to a substrate, and a plurality of second areas, at which the substrate is free from the image-forming substance, is protected by laminating thereto a laminating sheet comprising a barrier layer (34), a durable layer (36) and a support layer (40) with the barrier layer facing the image (10b), so that the barrier and durable layers adhere to both the first and second areas of the image. The support layer is then displaced away from the image such that the barrier and durable layers remain attached to the image. Both the barrier and durable layers are substantially transparent and the barrier layer comprises a polymeric organic material substantially impervious to the passage of hexane, isopropanol or water.

Cette invention concerne un procédé de protection d'une image binaire comprenant une pluralité de premières zones au niveau desquelles une substance poreuse ou particulaire formant une image adhère sur un substrat, et une pluralité de deuxièmes zones au niveau desquelles le substrat est dépourvu de la substance formant une image. Selon ce procédé, on dépose sur l'image binaire une feuille stratifiée constituée d'une couche d'arrêt (34), d'une couche résistante (36) et d'une couche de support (40), ladite couche d'arrêt étant située en face de l'image (10b), de sorte que la couche d'arrêt et la couche résistante adhèrent sur les premières et deuxièmes zones de l'image. On enlève ensuite la couche de support de l'image de sorte que la couche d'arrêt et la couche résistance restent collées sur l'image. Ces deux dernières couches sont sensiblement transparentes et la couche d'arrêt comprend une matière organique polymère qui est sensiblement imperméable à l'hexane, à l'isopropanol ou à l'eau.
