ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Timber and wood products including standing trees, logs, lumber, etc., can be protected against the respective bark and ambrosia beetles and against other insects by applying to the surfaces a pine oil, preferably one derived from the spent liquor of Kraft or sulfate woodpulping of various conifer species. Trees, logs and lumber have been sprayed with this pine oil and have been found to be protected against insect invasion and resulting damage. Disseminating vapours of the pine oil in the immediate locale also can provide considerable protection, e.g. for neighboring trees.
