A pipeline having a reinforcing wrapping helically wound around said pipeline. The wrapping comprises a naturally-occurring hydrophobic fibre exhibiting chemical and electrical resistance properties. In particular, the wrapping comprises basalt or jasper fibres and a matrix polymer encapsulating the fibres, with the matrix polymer being adhered to the pipeline. The fibres and polymer may also be coated on the pipeline.
