ABSTRACT The invention provides a book holder for a large book such as a telephone directory. So as to better protect the book from the elements, the holder comprises an elongate spine having a width to accomodate the thickness of the book to be displayed, longitudinally extending sides, a front hingeably attached to one of the sides of the spine to cover the front of the book and a back hingeably attached to the other of the sides of the spine to cover the back of the book. At least one of the front and back have an upstanding flange so that when the holder is in the closed position, the book is substantially fully enclosed. Attachment means coupled to the spine and adapted to hold the book in position relative to the spine are provided. Suspension means are coupled to the spine for connecting the holder to a support so that when the holder is allowed to hang by the suspension means the holder is in a closed position and the holder can be moved into an open position to provide reference to the book.
