Abstract of the Disclosure A protective plastic cap is adapted to be mounted on a blunt end of a dense, rigid one-piece molded fertilizer spike which is to be driven into firmly compacted soil, the cap having a tubular wall which is substantially elliptical in cross-section for receiving the above-mentioned end of the fertilizer spike, an open end and a closed end, with the closed end being integral with the wall and lying in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the wall, and with a plurality of external spaced protuberances extending upwardly from the closed end.
