A shielding cap for shielding the electric terminals of an engine starter has a housing which includes an opening through which extends the field terminal pin of a starter relay. The shielding cap is attached to the starter by threading a nut onto the field terminal pin. The housing integrally forms a pin bore which encloses the field terminal pin to prevent accidental or improper manipulation and to protect the field windings from mechanical and electrical contacts. The pin bore extends from the opening and encloses the free end of the field terminal pin and the nut whenthe shielding cap is mounted on the starter. The nut is prevented from falling out of the pin bore.
