ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is provided by this invention a novel static VAR generator for capacitor banks whereby surging transients to the anti-parallel thyristors are controlled by a sensing filter disposed to extract harmonic current components, a comparator means for comparing the harmonic current components to fixed level references, and a re- firing circuit means for turning on the anti-parallel thyristors when the fixed level references are exceeded.
