Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to a protective circuit to prevent the spontaneous ignition of thyristors in a series circuit containing a large number of thyristors. First switching signals are formed when the voltage at the relevant thyristor becomes negative. These first switching signals are fed through a clearing unit to a common evaluating device and to a counting device, the latter producing a clearing signal for the clearing unit only when a pre-determined number of first switching signals has arrived. The evaluating device follows a number of second transmitting devices, for transmitting a common time signal, corresponding to the number of thyristors.
