A protective coating and a metal surface protected by the coating is provided as well as laminates and thermoplastic films useful for making the protected metal surfaces. The coating comprises a multilayer or dual-film coating. The first film is an adhesive layer to hold the second film as a protective coating to the metal surface. The first film may be either a monolayer or dual- layer film or ethylene acrylic acid and carboxy-modified polyethylene. The second film is extruded over the first and comprises a low density polyethylene. The protective coating provides increased abrasion resistance and superior adhesion as demonstrated by peel strengths between both the film to extrudate interface and the film to metal interface.
L'invention décrit un revêtement protecteur et une surface métallique protégée par ledit revêtement, ainsi que des stratifiés et des films thermoplastiques utiles pour fabriquer lesdites surfaces métalliques protégées. Le revêtement comprend un revêtement multicouche ou à deux films. Le premier film est une couche adhésive pour maintenir le second film comme revêtement protecteur sur la surface métallique. Le premier film peut être soit un film monocouche soit un film à deux couches d'acide acrylique d'éthylène et de polyéthylène modifié par carboxydes. Le second film est extrudé par-dessus le premier et comprend un polyéthylène de faible densité. Le revêtement protecteur confère une résistance à l'abrasion accrue et une adhésion supérieure, comme cela est démontré par les résistances au pelage entre l'interface film-extrudat et l'interface film-métal.
