A protective coating (10) to reduce stress corrosion cracking of zirconium alloy sheathing (4) in nuclear reactors. The coating (10) is graphite based and includes ZrO2 and ethylcellulose and acts as a sacrificial layer to immobilize fission products by formation of Zr x I y C type compounds which do not cause stress corrosion cracking.

L'invention se rapporte à un revêtement protecteur (10) permettant de réduire la fissuration par corrosion sous contrainte d'un gainage (4) en alliage de zirconium dans des réacteurs nucléaires. Le revêtement (10) est à base de graphite et contient du ZrO2 et de l'éthyl cellulose. Ce revêtement agit en tant que couche sacrificielle et ce, dans le but d'immobiliser des produits de fission grâce à la formation de composés du type ZrxIyC qui ne provoquent pas de fissuration par corrosion sous contrainte.
