The invention deals with the polymerisation of unsaturated monomers in an aqueous medium and with protective colloids used during such polymerisation reactions. These protective colloids are water-soluble, non-ionic polyurethanes produced from polyisocyanates, water-soluble polyalkylene glycols with at least 70 % by weight ethylene glycol, and branched alcohols with at least 3 hydroxyl groups. These protective colloids are characterised by a certain ratio between water-soluble polyalkylene glycols and polyhydric branched alcohols.

L'invention concerne le domaine de la polymérisation des monomères insaturés dans un milieu aqueux, ainsi que des colloïdes protecteurs utilisés pendant de telles réactions de polymérisation. Ces colloïdes protecteurs sont des polyuréthannes non ioniques solubles dans l'eau produits à partir de polyisocyanates, de glycols de polyalcylène solubles dans l'eau contenant au moins 70 % de glycol d'éthylène, et d'alcools ramifiés avec au moins 3 groupes hydroxyle. Ces colloïdes se caractérisent par un rapport déterminé entre les glycols de polyalcylène solubles dans l'eau et les alcools ramifiés polyvalents.
