Speirs ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A protective container comprising a double walled vessel and a double walled lid filled with, for example, foamed polyurethane, is provided with a malleable, lid protecting rim extending upwardly from the outer wall of the vessel for slidably receiving the lid. A downwardly extending outer sleeve is provided on the lid to cap the rim. The outer sleeve has an annular, outwardly pressed corrugation with a clamping ring in two semi-circular parts located in it. The semi-circular parts of the clamping ring are tightened together by two bolts and four nuts into gripping contact with a corrugation extending around the rim.
