ABSTRACT The protective cover differs from known bandages and puttees by the fact that it has a therapeutic effect. The therapeutic effect results from the type and structure of the textile fabric which completely encloses the padding of the cover, as well as from the nature of the padding. The textile fabric consists of an electro- statically active synthetic fiber knit generating high electrostatic voltages on the skin. A fine rib-knit made of, e. g. polyvinyl chloride fibers with 50-120 stitches/cm2 proved to be therapeuti- cally effective. By an appropriate size of the mesh and the use of a synthetic foam with open pore s the evaporation of the skin moisture arising when the protective cover is worn is made possible and thus the high electrostatic voltages are maintained. The protective cover is designed to cure existing leg ailments of hoofed animals and to prevent them.
