The invention relates to a protective device for a driveshaft 1. For fixing the protective device on a joint yoke 4 of a universal joint 2 there is provided a connecting cap 9 in connection with a sliding ring 10. Furthermore, the connecting cap 9 serves to connect the protective cone 12. The protective cone 12 comprises a fixing portion 16 by means of which it is fixed on the connecting cap 9 by means of one or several resilient locking elements 22 which are connected to the sliding ring 10. The resilient locking elements 22 permit the protective cone 12 to be axially slid on to the connecting cap 9 without requiring any additional auxiliary means. However, they can only be opened by deliberately actuating at least one locking element by means of a tool, for example for making the joint 2 covered thereby accessible for maintenance purposes.
