ABSTRACT There is described a protective device for an injection needle that can be operatively connected to a syringe, comprising, an elongated sleeve, a hub axially moveable in the sleeve between retracted and ready-to-use positions, a hollow needle mounted in the hub and aligned substantially with the longitudinal axis of the sleeve, the distal end of the needle being positioned within the sleeve when the hub is in the retracted position and outside the distal end of the sleeve when the needle is in the ready-to-use position; and locking means selectively moveable between the hub and sleeve for locking the hub and sleeve together when the hub is in the retracted position.
