The invention relates to a protective element, especially a suspended protective element for using as a parasol or an umbrella, comprising a vertical pole (1), a protective cover element (4), and a holding structure connected to the vertical pole (1). The holding structure is rotatably mounted in relation to the vertical pole (1), and the rotational axis of the support extends at least approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vertical pole (1).
