Disclosed is a protective gas composition for preventing rapid oxidation or combustion of a molten magnesium/magnesium alloy. This protective gas composition is composed of a fluorine-containing organic compound and a carrier gas. Also disclosed is a method for preventing rapid oxidation or combustion of a molten magnesium or a magnesium alloy during production of magnesium or a magnesium alloy. This method is characterized in that the above- described gas composition is used as a protective gas for preventing rapid oxidation or combustion of a molten magnesium or a magnesium alloy.

L'invention concerne une composition de gaz protecteur destinée à éviter une oxydation rapide ou une combustion d'un alliage fondu magnésium/magnésium. Cette composition de gaz protecteur est composée d'un composé organique contenant du fluor et d'un gaz véhicule.
