ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A chin protecting means for a protective helmet com- prising, a chin cup having a pair of spaced straps adjacent opposed lateral edges of the cup, and a sheet of soft flexible material having a doubled portion extending past the outer side edge of at least one of the straps, with a fold line in said doubled portion defining a soft conformable side edge of the cup for contact with the wearer's skin. The skin protecting means also has strap means connected to said cup for attaching the chin protecting means to the helmet.
