A device for attaching a chin strap (14) to a protective helmet (1) including a main outer shell (2) having releasable and disconnectable means for fastening the chin strap (14) by means of a fastening member (17) secured to the chin strap (14) and engageable with a fastening lug secured to the helmet wall (2). Said fastening member (17) consists of a raised fastening portion secured to a pivotable grip lever, while the fastening lug consists of a matching recessed portion.
