A protective mask is formed of an annular magnetic sheet. Such a sheet may be used to cover annular surfaces to be protected. Adhesive is formed on one side of the sheet. In use, a fluid impervious sheet is adhered to the first side and across the central opening of the annular magnetic sheet. A method of protecting a metallic workpiece during treatment, the metallic workpiece having a portion to be protected during treatment, for example a raised face of a flanged pipe, the method comprising the steps of magnetically attaching a protective mask to the portion of the metallic workpiece to be protected, the protective mask being formed of an annular magnetic sheet and treating the workpiece, such as by painting or sandblasting. A method of protecting a pipe during transportation of the pipe, the pipe having a flanged pipe end and a pipe bore, the method comprising the steps of magnetically attaching a circular protective sheet to the flanged pipe end over the pipe bore; and transporting the pipe.
Masque de protection constitué d'une feuille magnétique annulaire. Une telle feuille peut être utilisée pour recouvrir des surfaces annulaires que l'on cherche à protéger. Un adhésif recouvre un côté de la feuille. Lorsqu'on s'en sert, on colle une feuille imperméable sur le premier côté et en travers de l'ouverture centrale de la feuille magnétique annulaire. On présente également une méthode de protection en cours de traitement d'une pièce à usiner comportant une section à protéger, par exemple la face soulevée d'un tuyau à bride. Pour appliquer cette méthode, on fixe par aimantation un masque de protection sur la section de la pièce métallique à protéger, le masque de protection étant constitué d'une feuille magnétique annulaire; puis on traite la pièce à usiner, soit en la peignant, soit en la sablant par jet. On présente également une méthode de protection de tuyau pendant son transport, le tuyau en question présentant une extrémité à bride et un alésage. Cette méthode consiste notamment à fixer par aimantation une feuille de protection circulaire sur l'extrémité du tuyau à bride par-dessus l'alésage du tuyau; puis à transporter ce tuyau.
