ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE As overvoltage protective means for a series capacitor in a high-voltage network, a metal oxide varistor is arranged in parallel with the capacitor. A spark gap for shunting the resistor in case of overload thereof is connected in parallel with the varistor. A linear resistor is connected in series with the metal oxide varistor. The voltage across the linear resistor is supplied to a trigger device for firing the spark gap when said voltage amounts to a predetermined value. The linear resistor is so adapted to the varistor that said pre- determined voltage value constitutes a smaller part, for example 10% of the whole voltage across the capacitor.
