ABSTRACT A system for protecting irregular surface contour portions of articles such as underground con- duits, comprising a hot or cold applied coating covered with a multi-ply plastic strip. The laminations of the plastic strip are made of a material such as polyvinylidene chloride, polypropylene, polyethylene, and polyvinyl. The strip has the characteristic of "deadfold", that is when folded or crumpled, it tends to retain that con- dition with no appreciable spring-back.
