A protective varnish is provided for prophylactic treatment of exposed dentin. The varnish offers mechanical protection from wear and prevents hypersensitivity by blocking the dentin tubules. The varnish comprises a matrix of curable resins. These resins penetrate the dentin and after curing enforce it, making the dentin more resistant to abrasion. The varnish may also offer an antimicrobial effect. This effect can be achieved by the varnish containing a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent such as 2,4,4'-trichloro-2'- hydroxydiphenyl ether.

L'invention concerne un vernis protecteur, destiné au traitement prophylactique de la dentine exposée. Ce vernis offre une protection mécanique contre l'usure, il empêche l'hypersensibilité par blocage des tubules dentinaires et il comprend une matrice de résines durcissables. Ces résines pénètrent dans la dentine et après leur durcissement, renforcent celle-ci, la rendant plus résistante à l'abrasion. Ce vernis peut également posséder un effet antimicrobien, obtenu lorsque ce vernis contient un agent antimicrobien à large spectre, comme le 2,4,4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxydiphényléther.
