ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A protector shield (28) is provided for a needle (26) to protect from injury to the hand and touch contamination of the needle. The protector shield (28) comprises an arcuate wall (36), longitudinally positionable about the pointed end of a tubular needle (26) in spaced relation to it. The arcuate wall (36) defines an open side (38), and an arcuate arm (42) extends from the arcuate wall (36) across a portion of the open side (38). The arm (42) extends generally circumferentially about the needle (26) so that the protector shield (28) may be used to lock the needle (26) into engagement with a Y-type injection site.
