A gene coding for the novel Protein H, which is capable of binding specifically to human IgG of all subclasses, was isolated from Streptococcus sp. AP1 and expressed in host cells, E. coli to produce the Protein H. The new protein is useful in the assay and purification of human IgG, removal or adsorption of excessive IgG from blood and for diagnosis of autoimmune diseases.
