In the process of analyzing changes in gene expression by TNF.alpha. in human umbilical vascular endothelial cells, a gene showing enhanced expression due to the stimulation with TNF.alpha. was isolated. As the result of screening with the use of this gene as a probe, a gene encoding a novel protein was isolated. By analyzing the protein encoded by the thus isolated gene, it has been found out that this protein is a novel one which has never been reported hitherto and has a PDZ domain in its molecule playing an important role in protein/protein interactions.

Au cours du processus consistant à analyser des modifications de l'expression génique par le facteur de nécrose stumoral (TNF) .alpha. dans les cellules endothéliales vasculaires ombilicales de l'homme, un gène présentant une expression favorisée grâce à la stimulation par le TNF.alpha. a été isolé. Un criblage réalisé au moyen de ce gène en tant que sonde a permis d'isoler un gène codant pour une nouvelle protéine. En analysant la protéine codée par le gène ainsi isolé, on a trouvé que cette protéine est une nouvelle protéine qui n'a jamais été mentionnée jusqu'à maintenant et qui présente, dans sa molécule, un domaine de PDZ jouant un rôle important dans les interactions protéine/protéine.
