A proton exchange membrane fuel cell and method for forming a fuel cell is disclosed and which includes, in its broadest aspect, a proton exchange membrane having opposite anode and cathode sides; and individual electrodes juxtaposed relative to each of the anode and cathode sides, and wherein at least one of the electrodes is fabricated, at least in part, of a porous, electrically conductive ceramic material. The present methodology, as disclosed, includes the steps of providing a pair of electrically conductive ceramic substrates, applying a catalyst coating to the inside facing surface thereof; and providing a polymeric proton exchange membrane, and positioning the polymeric proton membrane therebetween, and in ohmic electrical contact relative thereto to form a resulting PEM fuel cell.
La présente invention concerne une pile à combustible à membrane échangeuse de protons et un procédé de formation d~une pile à combustible, ledit procédé incluant, sous son aspect le plus général, d~une part une membrane échangeuse de protons ayant des côtés anode et cathode opposés, et d~autre part des électrodes individuelles juxtaposées vis-à-vis de chaque face anode et cathode, l~une au moins de ces électrodes étant constituée, en partie au moins, d~un matériau céramique poreux conducteur d~électricité. Le présent procédé, tel que décrit, comprend les étapes consistant à : prévoir une paire de substrats céramiques conduisant l~électricité ; appliquer un revêtement catalytique sur la surface tournée vers l~intérieur desdits substrats ; et fournir et intercaler entre lesdits substrats une membrane échangeuse de protons en polymère, ladite membrane étant en contact électrique ohmique avec les substrats de manière à former une pile à combustible à membrane échangeuse de protons.
