This disclosure describes a provisional hand-off mechanism to transfer handsets between base sta-tions for a MAC protocol that combines contention-free and contention- based MAC protocols for use in wireless VoIP systems with multiple base stations that reduces packet overhead thus allowing for transmission of high bit-rate data to multiple users over wired and wireless means.

Cette invention se rapporte à un mécanisme de transfert provisoire destiné à transférer des postes entre des stations de base pour un protocole MAC qui combine des protocoles MAC sans conflit et basés sur un conflit, à utiliser dans des systèmes VoIP sans fil avec de multiples stations de base, ce qui permet de réduire le surdébit de paquet en permettant de ce fait une transmission de données à débit binaire élevé à de multiples utilisateurs sur des moyens filaires et sans fil.
