The present device provides deactivation of a security magnetic label attached to an object while passing through a deactivation zone comprising an oscillatory electromagnetic interrogation field produced by driving the transmitting coil located in housing of said deactivation zone. The signals generated by the label are received by a receiving antenna in said housing and are processed by electronic circuitry adapted to distinguish said label signals from spurious signals with a high degree of accuracy. This makes deactivation process only possible when the secured object is within a deactivation zone. The label is deactivated so as to pass through the surveillance zone without triggering a security system response.
