PSEUDOPTEROSIN AND SYNTHETIC DERIVATIVES THEREOF Abstract of the Disclosure Methods for treating mammals to reduce pain, reduce cell proliferation and/or reduce inflammation are described based on administering to the mammals compounds having the formula Image wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen or an acyl residue hydrocarbon having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R5 is hydrogen or CH2OH and R6 is a functionalized hydrocarbon having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms. Natural and synthetic 1,12-seco derivatives of pseudopterosin with similar utilities are disclosed. Synthetic compositions having the above general formula which are useful in the method are disclosed.
