ABSTRACT The invention relates to cross-linked conductive polymer compositions exhibiting PTC behavior, to methods for preparing them and to devices comprising them. The invention is based on the discovery that, provided a sufficient degree of cross-linking is introduced, the cross-linking of any conductive polymer (whether crystalline or amorphous, and whether previously cross-linked or not) will have a substantial effect on the resistance temperature characteristics of the composition at a temperature which is related to the cross-linking temperature (which is frequently referred to herein as Tc), and/or at a temperature which is related to the temperature at which the polymer has previously been cross-linked. Thus the invention makes it possible to prepare PTC compositions which have hitherto unknown resistance/temperature characteristics and/or physical properties, including PTC compositions in which a conductive filler is dispersed in an elastomer. The new PTC compositions can be used in flexible strip heaters and other devices in which the temperature of a PTC element is used to control the size of the current flowing through an electrical circuit.
