A public access computer terminal system having at least a public access computer terminal is disclosed. The computer terminal is provided for interfacing with customers at a venue. The venue has one or more checkouts. Using the computer terminal, the system obtains customer identification information, and provides the customers with vouchers indicating promotional offers. The vouchers are presented at a checkout. The system obtains customer information based on information regarding issuance and redemption of vouchers. In a preferred embodiment, the system is capable of receiving e-mail from the Internet for customers. The computer terminal presents customers e-mail received from the Internet together with system messages.
