Public information system, wherein information bases (1) communicate information interactively to mobiles (3) via a short-range radio link. Each mobile has interface software enabling the information base to display the information on the screen (3a) of the mobile as if the screen was a device of the information base, and enabling the user to communicate data to the information base via the keypad (3b) of said mobile as if the mobile input interface was a device of the information base.
