The present invention is a fiber optic cable connector for providing a low cost connector that provides strain relief to optical fibers without compromising an optical coupling. The cable connector has a connector body (30) that has front and back ends (38, 40). The front end of the cable body has a pair of latching members (46) extending therefrom and a mounting post (48) that also extends therefrom. The back end of the connector body (30) is tapered to form a cable transition member. A connector body cover (34) is provided to protect optical fibers residing between the connector body (30) and the body cover (34). A fiber alignment block (32), or ferrule, is provided that has a fiber receiving surface (60) for receiving at least one optical fiber and a connector body engagement surface (58) and an optical interface device surface (62). A plurality of alignment grooves (66) are formed in the receiving surface (60) for aligning the at least one optical fiber. The connector body engagement surface (58) of the ferrule includes a receiving cavity (76) for receiving the mounting post (48) of the connector body (30).
L'invention concerne un connecteur de câble de fibres optiques présentant un faible coût et permettant de soulager les contraintes exercées sur les fibres optiques sans réduire la qualité du couplage optique. Ce connecteur de câble possède un corps (30) pourvu d'extrémités avant et arrière (38, 40). L'extrémité avant du corps du câble possède une paire d'éléments de verrouillage (46) s'étendant depuis ladite extrémité et une tige de montage (48) s'étendant également depuis ladite extrémité. L'extrémité arrière du corps (30) du connecteur se rétrécit progressivement, de manière à constituer un élément de transition de câble. Un couvercle (34) du corps du connecteur sert à protéger les fibres optiques situées entre le corps (30) du connecteur et le couvercle (34) du corps. Un bloc d'alignement (32) des fibres, ou ferrule, possède une surface (60) destinée à recevoir au moins une fibre optique, une surface (58) de contact avec le corps du connecteur et une surface (62) de composant d'interface optique. Une pluralité de rainures d'alignement (66) sont situées dans la surface de réception (60) et servent à aligner au moins une fibre optique. La surface (58) de la ferrule servant à établir un contact avec le corps du connecteur comprend une cavité de réception (76) destinée à recevoir la tige de montage (48) du corps (30) du connecteur.
