ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method and apparatus is disclosed for sorting fibrous suspensions, operating on the principle of a pressurized screen with rotating hydrofoils. The processed suspension is guided over the screen such that the component of the flow speed parallel to the surface of the screen is a multiple of the flow speed through the passage openings in the screen. The effect is achieved by providing the sorter with an inlet chamber (60) whose cross-sectional area size in the plane perpendicular to the axis (42) of the rotor decreases in the direction from the inlet to the outlet, the said size at the inlet being smaller than the sum of cross-sectional areas of the passages through the screen. The invention results in an improved performance of the machine from the standpoint of reducing the clogging of the screen passages thus allowing a modification in the size of the hydrofoils to reduce energy consumption. The separation effect of the machine is also improved.
