Abstract "Pulping Additive Composition and Process" An aqueous pulping additive composition for use in the kraft process comprising sodium hydroxide, sodium sulphide, sodium polysulphide and sodium thiosulphate wherein the ratio of sodium to total sulphur is selected from the range 1.5-2.5 to 1; and said sulphur in the forms of monosulphide, polysulphide and thiosulphate is in the molar proportions of substantially 1:2:1. A method of manufacturing the composition comprises a two-stage process wherein elemental sulphur is dissolved initially in only part of the total caustic component used. The composition provides improved stability and ease of handling over conventional pulping additives.
