Abstract A gating arrangement for a pulse compression circuit includes a surface acoustic wave delay line SAW responsive to an input pulse to generate a frequency-modulated radio-frequency output signal. This signal is applied to a gate OG and also to a circuit DC operable to produce a digital pulse corresponding to each cycle of the output signal from the delay line. The digital pulses are applied to a counter CT which two predetermined states. A control circuit BS responds to these two counter states such that when the counter CT is in a first one of the two predetermined states the control circuit BS opens the gate OG, whilst when the counter CT is in the other of the two predetermined states the control circuit closes the gate OG.
