An integrating sample-and-hold circuit which synchronously determines the mean amplitude of periodic pulses and waveforms is provided. A periodic input signal is simultaneously applied to a buffer amplifier, a comparator, and a threshold detector. The threshold detector which consists of a peak hold circuit and a voltage divider provides a threshold voltage which equals a predetermined fraction of the peak voltage of the input signal. The threshold voltage and the input signal are compared by the comparator which provides a sampling command when the input signal exceeds the threshold voltage. The sampling command operates a switch which connects the output of the buffer amplifier to an integrating sample-and-hold amplifier. The buffered input signal is integrated during the sampling interval, and the integrated mean voltage of the input signal is held until the sampling of the next cycle.
