Abstract of the Disclosure: A reflectometer uses a flashed tube, particularly a pulsed xenon tube, as a light source which is arranged to provide illumination from said source proportionally as a single flash on to a reference standard and on to a sample to be measured. The split beam mode of operation is employed. The reflectometer includes a reference standard measuring means and a sample measuring means for measuring the light reflected off the reference standard and the sample respectively. A signal processing means is also included for comparing the outputs of the two measuring means to determine the optical reflectance of the sample.
