- 1 - Abstract: A pulser circuit comprises a transistor with its drain and source arranged in parallel with a first resistor, and two SCR's each arranged in parallel with a further resistor. These elements are arranged as a series circuit across a capacitor, and a supply terminal is connected to the capacitor for charging the same. The gate of the transistor can be triggered to short circuit the first resistor and hence increase the forward voltage across each SCR. This increased voltage causes breakover of the SCR's and hence discharge of the capacitor through the series circuit of the SCR's and the transistor in avalanche mode, until the voltage drops sufficiently to permit recovery of the SCR's and recharging of the capacitor in readiness for further triggering. The result is a pulse at a circuit point between the capacitor and the series connection. This pulse has the desirable attributes of a relatively high voltage and short duration. Moreover the recovery time of the circuit permits a high repetition rate. Pulses of this type are useful for energising transducers of ultrasonic testing equipment.
