The invention relates to absorptive, crosslinked polymers which are based on partly neutralized, monoethylenically unsaturated monomers carrying acid groups, and have improved properties, in particular in respect of cheir capacity for transportation of liquids in the swollen state, and which have been after-crosslinked on their surface at temperatures of >150°C with a combination of polyol as after-crosslinking compound and a cation in the form of an aqueous solution.
