The invention relates to a pulverulent laundry and cleaning detergents ingredient which comprises a reaction product of an alkaline silicate and an acidic polycarboxylate, said reaction product being obtained by depositing a solution of the acidic polycarboxylate onto the alkaline silicate and then drying the resulting product at a temperature of from 40 to 150°C for a period of from 5 to 120 minutes, to a process for its preparation and to its use.
